Hi. I want to go to TNT for the 2010 carnival (and my 22nd birthday on 2/22). I'm looking for the dates but I'm getting different answers. I'm also interested in seeing the International Soca Monarch event too... where can I get all the info? I was told I should be buying my plane tickets now. Is that true?

Want to go to Trinidad for 2010 Carnival
I felt compelled to share this with you! My fust trip to Carnival was 1999 and was a real surprise. For the folks who grew up and around this event, it's a routine matter, some love it, some disdain it. The Carnival starts just after Parang season as far as I'm concerned. The mas camps are busy designing and producing costumes (at least they used to, now a lot are coming from China......) The tents come alive and the kaiso people are honing their skills (at least they used to)with new songs to unleash on the public. If you book your ticket early, you can get some great deals. If you have a partner and a place to stay that's great. If you have to go it alone, be wise and exercise caution. It's great to have fun with people who have your back and safety in mind. The structured week before Ash Wednesday is when the main events take place, Soca Monarch, Panorama, DiManche Gras, J'ouvert morning (4:00 am), Monday night mas and Carnival Tuesday. At midnight, the festivities drop off. Ash Wednesday, it's quiet, unless you're off to Manzanilla, Maracas,Salybia or another beach destination for a cool-down fete. The fetes are happening in and around Port of Spain daily and are listed in the Newsday, Guardian or if you take the former BeeWee airline, the Caribbean Beat magazine. Check with the local hotels for shows, like the Ambassador or the Normandy. These are great venues to see local artistes. Do some research on line at the various mas camps. I know this is brief, but it's just an overview. Good luck,be safe and have a great time!

I hear I want to go too but you're way too early. Tickets won't be available until at least September and then its a bidding war to get he best price. Emerald Travel is a popular choice for a lot of people including artists/bands. BUt you're right once you've gopnr to TNT Carnival its a life experience you never forget. Its been years since I've going but I'm definately trying to go next year. Maybe I'l see you there!!!!
