trying to find a specific band

i first heard soca for real at a bar in virgin gorda in the late 1980s. I came home a found the only soca cassette in the stores. I later found it on CD -- there were three albums -- all gone. great stuff. What I remember is one of the key songs and I think an album name was Haiti. Another album I think was called Charlie Roots. I can't recall the name of the artist but i recall he/they did some touring. I'm trying to replace those CDs So far, no luck. Any idea who that artist was??

You could only be referring to King David Rudder. He is one of my mentors, in fact the first. I heard him on de road in Trinidad in 1999 with Charlies' Roots. He has a song called Haiti on "Here Comes the West Indies".....Roots was what attracted me back to T&T. They had a reunion last year with Rudder at the Hotel Normandy. David has over a dozen CD's and is truly a mega talent. Roots also supported Christopher Herbert, formally known as Tambu. There's a lot of great music out there, better dig it up!
