St Lucia's Toxik Carnival Band Press Launch 2009
Model displays 2009 Toxik Carnival Band costume.
Big up Toxik Carnival band, the first band to launch for St Lucia Carnival 2009 (or 2KMine as the master of ceremonies kept echoing). Thanks Jason (band leader) for inviting me to your press launch which took place last Thursday, April 9 at Sandals Grand. I felt honoured and excited to be an invitee.
The press launch was of a high standard. It was a happy few hours filled with positive energy. Toxik carnival band came across as a band with hard working band leaders behind it. They appeared "ready for mas again". I felt the passion of Toxik's founders and was impressed. It was inspiring.
The sponsors had good things to say about Toxik. In particular, the representative for Campari said he was thrilled with the returns from sponsoring the band last year and is excited to be on board in 2009. He spoke well.
Then came the moment everyone was waiting for, the display of costumes. I was caught up with watching the beauty of the St Lucian young ladies who took to the stage. Toxik's theme for 2009 centers around "dreams". I liked the potrayal of the actors/models on stage and for a moment I dreamed of "not leaving here without a woman". I found the costumes very sensual, sexy and revealing. Two of them really stood out for me. I particularly liked the Nightmares costume and so did most of the attendees, judging from the rousing applause.
A word of caution. These costumes won't appeal to everyone. Certainly not folks looking for "traditional" carnival costumes. They are geared towards young, uninhibited, more daring revellers.
Toxik, thanks for the eats and drinks.
Overall, I give Toxik a thumbs up and wish them well for the 2009 St Lucia Carnival season. Great vibes!
