As far as soca radio stations are concerned, when Soca91.9FM came on the scene it was really a breath of fresh air. Finally, there was a station dedicated to playing strictly kaiso, calypso, rapso, chutney soca, raga soca and soca music. In recent times the station plays other genres of music, including dancehall, hip hop and R&B, and has apparently not stood true to its promise of playing strictly soca and related variations of the genre.
Personally I prefer the previous format of strictly soca music. It would be interesting to know why the decision was made to stray away from 100% soca. I'm sure there is a good reason.
The former strictly soca radio station located in Point Fortin, Trinidad, is owned by veteran soca artiste, road march and soca monarch winner, Neil Iwer George. Soca 91.9 went on air on October 1, 2004.
One suggestion is that they play more non-Trinidad music on soca 919 (trini bashment). It would be a more balanced station in my mind if soca from soca nations like St Lucia, Grenada, St Vincent, Barbados and other islands were an integral part of its programming. But overall, it's still a great station to listen to and plays mostly soca music. Listen to Soca91.9FM here.

Other Soca Radio Stations
WACK Radio 901FM is one of my favourites for listening to soca, calypso, chutney and rapso. It is owned by a personal friend of mine Mr Kenny Phillips. WACK stands for We Are Culture Krazy and is dedicated to showcasing the culture of Trinidad and Tobago to the world. WACK Radio 90.1 FM broadcasts 24/7 from 129-C Coffee Street, San Fernando, Trinidad.
Tempo Radio Station (Plays with realplayer) What I first noticed and liked about this soca radio station is that they play soca music from all the islands, not just the big ones. Bravo! I haven't done a lot of listening but will be doing so to see how it compares with other soca radio stations.
Bashment Radio 103.1 FM They're located in Brooklyn New York. They play soca music from all the islands, but also play other Caribbean music genres. Another one of my favorites. I just tuned in this morning and heard a marathon of soca music from St Lucia. Bravo!
BigUpRadio.com They play other genres of music in addition to soca, but the previous link takes you directly to the soca category.
Live365 Internet Radio You can also listen to free online soca radio stations at Live365 Internet Radio. You can listen to them for a certain number of hours without registering but later on you would have to register for continued access. Registration is free. Last time I checked there was a total of 10 soca radio stations. Some of them play other Caribbean genres like reggae and dancehall in addition to soca music.
Most radio stations in the Caribbean play soca music but the majority is not dedicated to the genre. Most play soca music at carnival time but include other genres during the rest of the year. At one time, if you wanted to hear strictly soca music Soca91.9 was your best bet. This is no more. You can try the soca category on BigUpRadio.com as mentioned earlier, listen to WACK radio or otherwise keep checking out Bashment Radio 103.1 FM and Live365 Internet Radio (the soca category) until they play some soca.
