Proud Vincentian

by Mark Anthony
(Toronto, Canada)

I love St Vincent, its people, heritage, music and yes carnival. Every year, a LOT of music comes out of SVG from old, intermediate and new artists. I think that is something to be nurtured and cherished. I can't say I know all that is done for them, but I can say that no matter what is being done, more need to be done to keep them inspired and creative doing what they love to do. If we are second to Trinidad, there is a reason for that and we need to look at and improve ourselves to become second to none.

The building of an international airport is a great start that should be completed to fruition. Cultivating our people and rewarding their efforts in carnival activities for Vincy Mas should be something as natural as breathing. Year after year after year, I visit the land where i was born and will continue to do so out of sheer love for my island and the people and culture. I love and will continue to love more and more my birthplace with each visit. We have a lot to offer any visitor to our island and we need to take care of our artists locally and abroad so they can continue to inspire, touch and grace us with their gifts.

Let carnival be a growing feature of our island and let our artists prosper year after year. I know many Trinidadians who love and respect our island and our music and that is saying a LOT considering their island, birthright and culture. We should always strive to be bigger and better in this respect and lend our support for those who support us.
