My father passed away in 1959; one thing I knew about him was that Lord Kitchener was one of his favourites. It was through him that I got to know this song & many others. Maybe 2 yrs after he passed on, I never heard the song again. I was just 13yrs old then. I know I liked the lyrics but can't remember most of it. I do remember part of it goes ' constable joe you know he stole the cow from John bulls farm: if you missed the story you hear it from me that every police man is a thief" Can anybody help with the lyrics"

So, there is somebody, apart from me, who is also after "Constable Joe"!I am a recording artist, and not only do I LOVE this beautiful piece of music, but I also want to record a cover version of it.For years, I have been searching every where in an effort to get my hands on this recording, but up til now, no luck.I am so desperate to grab this record, I would be willing o give the proverbial´right arm´ (even left leg also), if it's of any use to any one, just to obtain this recording !
Perhaps one of you knowledgeable calypso gurus out there could give me a tip as to where best to look for it? That would make me happy no end.

I discovered this page today, August 11, 2011, and I'am glad I did, because it is a much needed page. I too heard CONSTABLE JOE when I was growing up in Lagos, Nigeria, in the 50's. The tune, and Kitch, were very very popular through out West Africa then. The tune, was released on the MELODISC label as a 78 RPM record in 1954, on MELODISC 1318. THE "B" side was A MAN IN THE WARDROBE VIO. I played it in the radio programs I hosted in Chicago, Ill. (WHPK),in New York City (WBAI), and in Amherst, MASS (WFCR). But someone borrowed it and never returned it. So, now, I am looking for a copy too. In case there is anyone out there who can help.
By the way, MELODISC issued no less than 12 records by Kitch in 1954, and you can request the list from me by emailing me at ggo@kaiso.net
