My father passed away in 1959; one thing I knew about him was that Lord Kitchener was one of his favourites. It was through him that I got to know this song & many others. Maybe 2 yrs after he passed on, I never heard the song again. I was just 13yrs old then. I know I liked the lyrics but can't remember most of it. I do remember part of it goes ' constable joe you know he stole the cow from John bulls farm: if you missed the story you hear it from me that every police man is a thief" Can anybody help with the lyrics"

So, there is somebody, apart from me, who is also after "Constable Joe"!I am a recording artist, and not only do I LOVE this beautiful piece of music, but I also want to record a cover version of it.For years, I have been searching every where in an effort to get my hands on this recording, but up til now, no luck.I am so desperate to grab this record, I would be willing o give the proverbial´right arm´ (even left leg also), if it's of any use to any one, just to obtain this recording !
Perhaps one of you knowledgeable calypso gurus out there could give me a tip as to where best to look for it? That would make me happy no end.

I discovered this page today, August 11, 2011, and I'am glad I did, because it is a much needed page. I too heard CONSTABLE JOE when I was growing up in Lagos, Nigeria, in the 50's. The tune, and Kitch, were very very popular through out West Africa then. The tune, was released on the MELODISC label as a 78 RPM record in 1954, on MELODISC 1318. THE "B" side was A MAN IN THE WARDROBE VIO. I played it in the radio programs I hosted in Chicago, Ill. (WHPK),in New York City (WBAI), and in Amherst, MASS (WFCR). But someone borrowed it and never returned it. So, now, I am looking for a copy too. In case there is anyone out there who can help.
By the way, MELODISC issued no less than 12 records by Kitch in 1954, and you can request the list from me by emailing me at ggo@kaiso.net

Constable Joe - missing treasured song?
by: Paschal

Man I could not help laughing when I finally arrived here!

I was in an Afro-Shop in Stuttgart, when I heard someone mentioned "Constable Joe". There I remembered and joined in with the phrase "(e)very Policemen is a thief). That is all I know!

The song was always half song by my senior brother when I was round 13 years old too.

So hearing and remembering, I promised to search for it in the magic world of the internet.
Today Friday, the 13 of November I have finally come searching only to find others here looking for the same missing song!

So please I add up anyone having a clue please help us to find this missing treasure of the song called "Constable Joe"!
I play Saxophone, and maybe will be nice to play it on my horn?

A very merry Xmas season to those seeking Lord Kitchener's 1954 "Constable Joe" (Melodisc 1318).
I have it digitized from the 78...not pristine...but pretty good i-tunes quality.

I need no arms, legs, other body parts or any form of recompence. Just happy to share the music.
